The "Alatau City Investment Roundtable" took place in London, marking the launch of a European roadshow aimed at attracting international capital for the development of Alatau City. The Kazakhstani delegation was led by Kanat Bozumbayev, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The roundtable brought together representatives from over 70 companies, investment funds, banks, and expert organizations, including JPMorgan Chase, AstraZeneca, Revolut, BP, and Brookfield Asset Management. Attendees were introduced to the development concept for Alatau City, the city’s investment potential, key infrastructure projects, and the mechanisms through which foreign capital can participate in their implementation.

Addressing the participants, Kanat Bozumbayev emphasized the strategic importance of Alatau City, a project initiated by President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

"It is no coincidence that we are beginning our roadshow in London – one of the world’s leading financial and legal hubs. The United Kingdom is our strategic partner. Alatau City is a strategic initiative launched by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. We are building a new hub for business, finance, technology, and logistics, designed to serve as a vital link for economic cooperation between Europe and Asia," - noted Kanat Bozumbayev.

During the roundtable, Alisher Abdykadyrov, CEO of the "Alatau City Authority" (the special management organization), outlined the city’s core development priorities, including the creation of modern engineering and transport infrastructure, as well as the establishment of industrial, business, and logistics zones. The international engineering and consulting firm Arup introduced participants to approaches for spatial planning and urban infrastructure development. Also, as part of the Alatau City Investment Roundtable, Timur Onzhanov, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of the "Baiterek" National Managing Holding JSC, presented the holding’s investment opportunities and the financing instruments available to foreign partners.

A key advantage of Alatau City is its special legal regime, established by the Constitutional Law of May 8, 2026. This regime incorporates principles of English and Welsh law, provides modern mechanisms for investment protection, and fosters a predictable business environment.

During an expert session featuring international law firms Norton Rose Fulbright, Reed Smith, and Boies Schiller Flexner, discussions focused on legal mechanisms for attracting investment, public-private partnerships, international arbitration, the regulation of digital assets, and the resolution of commercial disputes. The potential for establishing a specialized Alatau City investment court – based on the principles of English common law – was also explored.

As part of the business program, meetings were held with leadership from the London Stock Exchange, Brookfield Asset Management, Société Générale, J.P. Morgan, and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The parties examined opportunities for attracting institutional capital, utilizing project finance instruments, and engaging international financial institutions in the development of the city’s energy, transport, and utility infrastructure.

The event concluded with the signing of nine agreements with international partners, representing a total investment potential of 1.3 billion US dollars. These agreements cover the financing of infrastructure and investment projects, the development of educational and healthcare facilities, and the expansion of international cooperation.

Specifically, plans are underway to establish educational institutions in collaboration with the University of Exeter, Brighton College, and the Repton Group. Partnerships with AstraZeneca and Crescent Meditours focus on developing medical infrastructure, attracting investment, and facilitating scientific exchange.

Currently, the Alatau City investment portfolio comprises 67 projects with a total value of approximately 6.9 billion US dollars, which are expected to create around 55,000 jobs. Concurrently, 26 engineering and transport infrastructure projects – covering energy, water, and gas supply, as well as sewage networks and roads – are being implemented in the city, with a total value of 35.3 billion tenge.

The investment roadshow will continue with discussions involving representatives from UK government bodies, financial institutions, and strategic partners. The next phase of the European roadshow will consist of investment-focused events in Germany.
