President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev presented Alatau City to the business community of the Republic of Korea as a next-generation urban and economic hub. The Head of State spoke about the city’s development prospects and the involvement of Korean partners at the Kazakh-Korean round table in Seoul.

The President noted that Alatau City is being created as a new centre of advanced industries and innovation, with its development based on digital technologies, artificial intelligence and modern engineering.

“Built on digital technologies, artificial intelligence and modern engineering, the city is developing with the active involvement of Korean partners. Together with KIND, we are working on implementing the master plan, developing residential districts and attracting Korean companies,” Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said.

The participation of Korean business is seen as one of the key areas of international cooperation within the development of Alatau City. During the presentation of the project, initiatives involving Korea Overseas Infrastructure & Urban Development Corporation (KIND), KAIST and Korea Airports Corporation were showcased.

They cover the development of K-Smart Town, educational and R&D infrastructure, urban air mobility, as well as the introduction of digital modelling and artificial intelligence technologies.

Particular attention is being paid to the development of urban air mobility. The presentation featured a UAM/UTM traffic management system providing for the use of unmanned aerial vehicles and air taxis.

Overall, Alatau City is taking shape as an international platform that brings together urban planning, education and research, industry and logistics, digital technologies and investment cooperation.

Addressing representatives of the business communities of the two countries, the President underscored the significant potential for further expanding the Kazakh-Korean economic partnership and called on Korean companies to invest more actively in Kazakhstan.

According to the figures cited by the Head of State, total foreign direct investment from the Republic of Korea into Kazakhstan has exceeded USD 12 billion, while more than a thousand companies with Korean capital operate in the country.

“The Government of Kazakhstan will provide comprehensive support to every mutually beneficial initiative that Korean business brings to our country,” Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized.
